Week 25 - Eu Actualmente Posso Falar Portuguese Agora!

June 11, 2018

Hey everyone! Been an awesome week, I'm lovin Carregado. It's crazy though I can actually understand and speak Potuguese really well all of the sudden! I've been speaking only Portuguese with my companion, and I have not had any problems yet! Sooo life couldn't be better! I'll explain more about my companion, Elder Fajardo, near the end of my email!

June 5th, My last day in Braga on my mission, kinda didn't even feel like I was gonna leave. As I said before, I made so many friends and connections there that will be lifelong, but I am happy to begin somewhere new again! I visited with some members and invesigators. Was a good last day, and I ended it off with getting one last milkshake from Stake n Shake... classic.

June 6th, Got up at 6:00, and then said bye to Elder Baugh. I freakin love that guy, we had basically everything in common and had killer talks throughout our days. He was just like a real bud, and I know whenever I stop by the state that he's in, whether it be Cali or Utah I'll visit him. Anyways, then I got ready for my voyage from the top north to the bottom south of my mission (which is really around the middle of Portugal) but still, a long trip alone and relying on my Portuguese and hoping I took the right stops... which I did! Then I got to a city Santarem and met Elder Fajardo, where we took a bus to Carregado. We got there and he introduced me to lots of members and investigators!

June 7th, We went and met the rest of our District. There are 8 of us and the rest are in Santarem, so we travel there which is around a one and a half hour bus ride. The district is doope tho, check out the pic I will attach. Then later in the night we were knocking doors and two Brazilian ladies let us in! That was awesome!

June 8th... we grinded hard all day, my comp was really sick, and I was sick as well. We think the chicken that we had the day before wasn't fully cooked... but oh well. Elder Fajardo was actually really sick though. The funny part of the day was the lady at the Pharmacy asked him if he was over 50 years old hahahahha.

June 9th, honestly don't have much to write about for this day. Got shutdown quite a bit but what else is new. I always have a great time laughing off the rejection so it's chill.

June 10th, Another bus ride to Santarem because it was Stake Conference! My second one in 3 weeks hahah! Saw lots of missionaries there, including my boii Elder Joel Patterson. What a real homie. Conference was good though. I met Julio, when I was in the MTC Elder Webb and I taught a member over skype to help our Portuguese, and Julio was that member, so that was cool! Then we headed home, and went to work. We took a 5 minute bus to another small city, Alenquer , which is in our area but we did not have too much luck. In the night we had a member meal!

Was a dope week, I'm lovin it here.

My comp is Elder Fajardo, he's from the country El Salvador which is in Central America. He's my second Latino comp, and my 3rd out of 4 who is fluent in Spanish! Anyways, he's a super chill, laid back guy. He actually has an older brother who is serving in the Edmonton mission which is crazy! His dad is an English teacher so he actually can speak English pretty good, and we always take like 30 minutes a day to practice English in depth. It's perfect because we talk all day in Portuguese, I've surpisingly not had too many questions but when I do, he can usually answer! I really do like him though, we've never been close to arguing and it's always a good chill time.

The cool story this week is that we have a member, Irma Tina, and she makes us dinner to take home every day of the week except Sundays! Unreaaal.

My challenge this week is something that I have been doing for quite a while now on my mission. It's a once a week thing. Take time to kneel and pray about everything you're grateful for, and everyone you care about, and just have a real "Thanking session" with God. For example, when I do it I go through our list of missionaries, and then individually people and families back home who have helped me and that I'm grateful for. Usually takes a solid amount of time, but, it's worth it!

Have a great week homies!
