Week 26 - Metade do Ano

 Hey everyone! Another dope week here in Carregado! It's even better since I'm starting to meet more people! Yeah it's a really small town here so I've gotten to know some nonmembers off the streets as well. But yeah it's great and getting hot! It even got up to 37 degrees Celcius this week!

June 12th, Started with a district meeting.. which meant another hour and a half bus ride to Santarem! Then an hour and a half back. Then some lunch! Then getting shut down knockin some doors, classic!

June 13th, Nothing much happened, nobody was able to meet with us and we just got shutdown lots. We did go and teach one investigater. It was a quick lesson but she had a cute baby cat that kept jumping on to me, and hitting my legs with its paw. The bad part is my companion, Elder Fajardo, is allergic to cats so he got really sick and do we had to go home!

June 14th, We had two appoinments that didn't go through, but we met with a less active Dionisios and he was saying that he wanted to come back to church and he hadn't been in around 6 months! (He ended up going and he had a bunch of friends there and people love him.) He's so dope actually, when we knocked his door he answered with no shirt on! But that's been happening lots lately! But yeah Dionisios is a beauty and he looks the exact same as Akon! After that we knocked doors with no luck! Tough week knocking doors ahah!

June 15th, I had a really bad headache about halfway through the day, which was basically my first time feeling sick on the mish which is good for being out 6 months! Anyways, I rested for an hour or two then we got back on that grind. In the night we had a "Noite de Familliar" which is basically just like a spiritual night with a member or something like that! We had it with Irma Izelda, she's around 70 years old and just such a cute sweet old lady. She loves to talk to me about the cities here in Portugal, and especially about how the Portuguese and Brazilians have different accents! We had two members there as well, Douglas and Beatrice! They're awesome and just about to get married! It was a great night!

June 16th, Great day. Worked hard, taught our 18 year old investigater Almon. He's dope. And finally got let in a door here when we were knocking! It was awesome! We taught a woman named Veronica from Angola. We had lunch with Irma Tina (The same member who always makes dinner for us every night) she's literally the best and a great cook! My cool story from the week will be what we ate hahah!

June 17th, My first time at church here in Carregado (last week was stake conference) there were lots of cool members there and it seems like an awesome ward! We even had to teach the kids age 12-18!! But that doesn't happen every week. Then we had lunch at the house of Irma Luisa, there were like 15 members there because she apparently always invites everyone over for lunch! After that we tried to work hard but its World Cup season... whenever any team plays especially Portugal or Brazil the whole town is gowing crazy with flags, jerseys and facepaint. Brazil was playing this day so I sent a message on the phone to all the members of our district a challenge. In Doctrine and Covenants Ch104 V82 there is a scripture that talks about how to gain a victory. I sent it and it fits perfectly. We can say, "Hi we are missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ, we would love to share a message with you about how you can help your team wjn the world cup!" But in Portuguese of course haha! And the Sisters in our district were actually able to use it to go in and teach some people! It was awesome to get there call! We had dinner with Irma Dina, and then a "Noite de Familiar" with Irma Luisa!

It was a great week overall, we had to work really hard but the work was all worth it! 

The cool story is we ate "Cow Hand" at Irma Tinas house! Or I guess Cow Hoove. It was pretty good! There were even little hairs still on it! 

My challenge this week is to eat Cow hand! Naw just kidding, my challenge this week is kinda the same as my one last Mother's Day. Text someone who has been like a father to you - a late Father's Day paragraph.

I have been blessed with so many great father figures in my life. I can't even start listing them all, basically all of my friends' dads, and my uncles, and daily friends. But there are so many that I don't want to even start listing them. But in my life especially my Grandpas, they have always been there for me and have helped me really become who I am today. They have always supported me whether it be sports, school, or even my mission. I am so lucky to have them in my life. But most of all, my dad who is my best friend as well. If it wasn't for him I couldn't be half of what I am which can't equal half of what he is. I have been blessed beyond measure, and being out here as made me appreciate it more than I already did. I am so grateful for the example and role model that my dad has been for me in this life.

I have had so many great spiritual experiences this week even though it's been a tough week work wise. I know the work I am doing here is true and correct. I shouldn't be doing anything else in my life right now either. I love and miss home. But I know my work here is more important than being at home right now!

WEEK 102 "Just Hold on We're Goin Home"

WEEK 102 "Just Hold on We're Goin Home" December 2, 2019 Hey everyone!  Well this is it, my last email. So thanks to everyone who has kept up these past 2 years, I really have grown so much.  The best part of the last week was the Baptism we had of Sara, we started working with her at the start of the transfer and it worked out perfect for her to be baptized in the last week! It was miraculous how she was able to leave smoking so easy, as I haven’t seen anyone leave it that fast I know God had a hand in that work. As well Sara's best friend Carina is an amazing recent convert who helped us and especially Sara out a lot. It was a great day and lots of people came to the baptism. I love the ward here in Seixal. I'm so happy I got to spend my last transfer here. I'll add a foto from the baptism below. Week 99

Week 99 November 11, 2019 Busy week but here are a few highlights: Elder Lehnhof  and  I found a bunch of people this week. I hurt my back mid-week, so I had to stay inside for two days.  We ate at some members' homes which is always great. The members do a good job of taking care of us.  Tomorrow is my last Zone Conference and that feels crazy.  I’ll be sharing my testimony and saying goodbye to a lot of people.  Things are going great with my companion, Elder Lehnhof.  No problems at all there.  Elder Layton parks.layton@missionary.org Elder Lehnhof

WEEK 100 "0-100 Real Quick" November 18, 2019 Hey everyone! Well I have officially made it into the triple digit column on weeks that I have been on my mission, and also for the first time in these past 100 weeks, or 700 days if you want, I got sick. I have never known what it would be like to be sick as a missionary, and I was super grateful for that... so this week was a new experience.  On theTuesday we had a Zone Conference, which was great. I love Presidente Fillmore, he always says the things that I need to hear and I've grown so close to him over the span of my mission. When you respect someone so much, everything they say is more inspiring, and you care to listen even more. I feel I have learned some amazing personality traits from him that I wish to continue developing. It was also my last Zone Conference which was pretty weird. WEEK 97 Hello Seixal

WEEK 97 Hello Seixal October 28, 2019 Hey everyone!  First week of the last transfer down and it was a crazy/weird week. I got my new comp Elder Lehnhof who is from Highland utah. He has the exact same amount of time on the mission as my little brother Blaze! It’s pretty fun for me to think about the face that I have the opportunity/honour to start off someone's mission and that people had prayed for Elder Lehnhof to get a good trainer just like I was praying for my brother to get a good trainer. I'm super motivated to work so hard and just keep grinding until the last day! And that's what I'm going to do! Elder Lenhof is super cool, and super motivated to work so it’s gonna be an unreal transfer.  Our area is called Seixal and it is absolutely unbelievable! WEEK 41 "Solid Week" October 1, 2018 Hey everyone! One more week until the next transfer! The time has been flyin! But life here is good, we've been doin our best and workin hard! This week I had an interview with President and it was so awesome, he's so chill! But yeah I'll start with the week!  25 de Set, we had a district counsel in the mornin and it went smoothly! But I was feeling sick the whole day, so I took some time to rest in the afternoon. Then we went back to work, I still felt sick but ya know, gotta work hard!  26 de Set, we went and visited Filipe in the morning. Ever since his baptism and meeting us he's been able to have so much more strength. He is epaleptic, and he has told us how much better he's been feeling as of lately! Week 37 "I won bowling by a landslide" September 3, 2018 Hey everyone!! First of all we went bowling today with 2 elders, and 2 sisters and I won in bowling proving that Canada is the best. But anyways the week was unreal, Filipe was baptized and Elder Moreira is a freakin beauty. We only talk Portuguese but it's so fun. I'm helpin him with his English as well. He has sauce, not juice... (Only some of you will get that)  but yeah, this is gonna be a great transfer! It's weird being a District Leader, because now there's even more work I need to do now. But I'm really liking it because I can start to help other missionaries on a more personal level, and service and help is what life is all about!! WEEK 67 RAFA

WEEK 67 RAFA April 1, 2019 Hey Everyone!  the bigger version of this email will come later today, or next week! I'm pretty tired and don't know when I'll have time to fully write out a solid email!! So I'll just tell you about the baptism we had!! On Sunday after church we had a baptism!! Rafa got baptized and the day was just super great! She accepted everything so willingly and really showed she believes in what we're saying. The first time we taught her she started crying, the Spirit was so strong there. We continued teaching, and once we invited her to be baptized, she ran to the other room, screamed in a pillow, and then came back and responded, "Yes please". Seeing her faith, even at a considerably young age, was a great testimony builder. She was so happy the whole day! It was also Elder Cloes' first baptism! Week 23 - Um Outro Batismo em Braga

Week 23  May 28, 2018 Hey everyone, another one down for your boy. Was an awesome week, I have learned to really excpect the weirdest things here... Especially here in Braga! But its the best here! This week was awesome, Rosa Maria was baptized. She is the mom of one of my great friends here, Sol Amor. But yeah, the mission life by now is feeling like my normal lifestyle now! May 22 - We had a facetime in the morning with a bunch of missionaries, and the mission president! Then we went out and worked. In one of the more sketchy areas. I saw lots of strange things, as well as a road full of police! Pretty interesting night! May 23 - In the morning Elder Baugh and I went and put up a little banner thing in downtown and just contacted people walking around explaining more about our church, and setting things up for later.
