Week 31 - I’m a temporary Citizen now (:
July 23, 2018
Hey everyone! This week there was some crazy experiences but all is great with my new comp! Elder Terra is dope and we get along super good! So he was actually born here in Portugal and is full Portuguese. But he moved to England at age 5, so he is 100 percent fluent in both languages. It has been a super great week! Also a happy birthday shoutout to my Granny and my brother Cruz! Love these two so much, and I really am blessed to have them in my life!
17 de Julho, Went to Santarem and then sent Elder Fajardo on his way! We had a good 6 weeks and I hope the best for him on the rest of his mission here in Portugal! I also saw my boy Elder Patterson. And then Elder Terra arrived and we headed on our way back to Carregado! We got back and went to work! We made some really great contacts and this transfer's finna be lit.
18 de Julho, We actually had a district meeting in the morning so we went to Santarem again but then right after that we went to Lisboa!! I had SEF the next day. That means I will get a card, and officially be a temporary resident here in Portugal! But when we got to Lisboa, we still had time in the day so we started working! It was super cool and the people there were super nice! We ended up staying in a house with 11 Missionaries (because there was a leadership meeting the next day) and we got Pizza... all in all it was a lit night.
19 de Julho, I woke up and got ready for SEF! In the morning the mission office had some packages for me so thank you for the packages! When we went to SEF it was me, Elder Seegmiller, and my homie from Braga Sister Ogden! Such a great group and it was a fun time. Then we headed home to Carregado. In the night we taught our investigator Amon!
20 de Julho, We were about to start our weekly planning when we received a phone call. A woman named Natasha asked if we could meet up and we set an appointment at 12. We went there and she told us she needed to repent and she got our number from her cousin. We asked her to be baptized, first thing.. and she said yes! We went on to teach the lesson and she agreed with all of it. So that was a blessing straight from God, I am glad we get the opportunity to share his message with her. Nothing else really happened, we starting talking to an African man and the he tried to roast our church but Elder Terra is a beast in the language and with scriptures and ended up wrecking the dude... but we all walked away as friends so that's what matters!
21 de Julho, Happy Birthday Cruz! I'm so grateful and blessed to have you in my life as my brother. Thank you for your example of kindness to everyone, even at such a young age it is evident. Anyways, in the morning we met with our investigator Amon. We talked to him a bit and helped him realize that he had really received an answer that the Book of Mormon is true! He was feeling super great after that. Then later in the day I had my English lesson... we had a completely new group of 11 haha. So I taught the first lesson over again! At this point I can get that first lesson down pretty good! Then we went to a member's sons house and gave his baby a blessing. Then after that, we went to our investigator's (Lara) mom's house. The mom is part of a super strong member family so that helps a lot with Lara!
22 de Julho, Crazy day! Church in the morn, and then lunch at Irma Dina's house. Then we went home and got prepared to go work! As we were walking, an older woman motioned for us to come and talk to her. We did, and she talked about how she knew the word of God and then went on to say that this African boy on her street is a "wizard" and he's not a son of God. And a bunch of other stuff, she just went on a rant. Elder Terra ended up wrecking her using scriptures and calling her a hypocrite. It was super funny. When ever we talk to these people, Elder Terra just goes beast mode on them, it's pretty funny to watch cause I just sit there listen to a Bible bash. But then after that, we were walking and stopped and talked to a man Helder... we asked if he had time to listen to our message. He said that he had time then, and we went to the church. It was an awesome lesson and he really liked it and was super interested and wanted to learn more. But at the end of the lesson, he said, "When you look at me what do you see?", and we said, "a son of God".... He then went on and abnormally quoted a huge section from the scriptures saying, "I am the God of Abraham, I am the God of Israel, I am the God..." for around three minutes. It was honestly one of the strangest things I've seen. And he tried to tell us that he was God and he gave us our mission calls and stuff. After that we left the church and I saw a couple friends from the streets that I have made over time. They were wearin a Kobe, and a KD team USA Jersey! (I'll add the photo) Their fav player right now though is Joel Embiid hahah!
So yeah, this week was crazy and lots happened! But overall it was an awesome week with some good memories... But I mean when you're walking the streets all day trying to talk to anyone, crazy things will happen.
My cool story from this week is that Elder Terra has a "Guitalali"" Basically a mix of a guitar and a ukulele. He's freakin good and he plays songs in the night and stuff. But it's super cool.
Spiritual thought from this week is.... 1 Samuel Ch16 V7
Solid Verse overall
7 But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.
My challenge this week comes from Elder Terra, read the talk "Man Made, or God Given" by Tad R. Callister in BYU speeches. I hope that it is easy to find, but even if it takes some time to find, trust me and Elder Terra. It's worth it!!
