Week 34 - "Where are you from?"
Week 34 - "Where are you from?"
August 13, 2018
Hey everyone! I have more time this
week. It was a solid week out here on the Lord's grind. This week I made over 20
smoothies and made some Russian friends so I guess it was a successful week. The
weather cooled down so it was actually workable. This P'day we went to a city
Vila Franca de Xira and hiked a lil mountain with some other Elders. Was a sweet
time! Anyways, let's go...
August 7th, We had a district counsel and I
brought some ties and did a tie trade with some of the Elders! When we got back
to Carregado we taught a lesson with a member, Emanuel. He's awesome, likes
bball, and all the same music as me. Anyways, we taught a woman Jaquiline! She is
pregnant right now and we taught a lesson based around family and Christ. It was
a spiritually powerful lesson and really an honour to be there.
8th of August, SO basically all our appointments
got wrecked and then we got stuck in another city because a man backed out last
minute... (Welcome to missionary life) then the bus home never came and we
almost got stuck but a member (Yohel) came in clutch and drove us home!
9th of August, Amazing day! I would say we taught
two of the best lesssons on my mish! We taught Igor and Lisandra in the morning, we answered lots of their questions and they seemed excited about the Book of
Mormon! In the night we went and taught the AAA fam. (Antony, Ana, Anderson) It
was amazing. We taught them last week on a park bench, and this lesson was
great. With tears in everyone's eyes and all. An embodiment of how lessons should
be and go.
10th of August, We really didn't get much done, but
in the night we met a man Vitor who was interested in English, and in our
church! He asked us a bunch of questions about our church! Also there's a group
of girls that always comes up and talks to us now... So I guess we are becoming
accepted as locals to Carregado!
11th de August, I woke up with a pain in my leg,
and I don't know where it came from. It eventually stopped our work. But the
English lesson was LIT! There were 15 people there! It's surprising to me how I
am actually teaching people English. I would have never thought that
hahah!
12th of August, Church in the morn! Then just a day
of work and people not attending their doors! But it's just classic by now. A
cool thing is that here in Carregado there is a little hill like 15 mins away.
We prayed what to do and I felt we should go there. So we went, it ended up
taking us the rest of the night buuut... we met two women who were baptized 8
months ago but haven't seen the missionaries since! Idk what happened there, but
they were super happy and it was a good meeting!
Like I said, another solid week in Portugal!
The cool story from this week is a phrase, "Where
are you from?". I get asked in Portuguese but my whole time here people have
been asking me it. Especially this past week in specific! It's actually funny
because I always respond with, "Where do you think I'm from?". I always get Russia,
Germany, Ukraine, the most and then USA. Only one person guessed Canada... it was
a Russian man who didn't even speak Portuguese or English. He just came up to me
and said Canada... I didn't even have anything Canadian on me but he just came
up and said it!
My scripture from this week is 2 Nephi Ch11 V6,7.
These scriptures are just powerful.
2 Nephi 11: 6-7
6 And my soul delighteth in proving unto my people that save Christ should come all men must perish.
7 For if there be no Christ there be no God; and if there be no God we are not, for there could have been no creation. But there is a God, and he is Christ, and he cometh in the fulness of his own time.
My challenge for you all is to say "hi", "good
afternoon" or whatever to at least 5 strangers on the street this week. It's
what I gotta do every day here (except more than 5) so I gotta challenge you all
to do it!
Good times here in Portugal, God loves the people
here, and the people back home!
