WEEK 53 Just an Overall Solid Week
December 24, 2018
Hey Everyone! Thanks everyone for the Birthday wishes! Really is pretty crazy to think that my teenage years are in the past. I'm actually getting kind of old! so whack. But other than that and officially reaching 1 year out here, the week was great and full of random little surprises! So I'll just start it out now!

18 de Dez, The day started off by a district counsel! Elder Fillmore (he's in our district) gave an awesome training session to us. He compared us as missionaries to Crocadiles. The source of a Crocadile's power is his mouth and he needs to open it to be successful. As missionaries it's the exact same, our power only comes as we open our mouth. But Satan (Steve Irwin) plays an affect. Steve wants to grab the Crocs and tie their mouths shut, but as missionaries we can't let that happen. He gotta keep fighting. Later in the day we had a choir practice but before that we were knocking doors. We were walking up these stairs in the dark and we were nearly at the 3rd floor when Elder Jardine turned the light on and I saw above me a woman, about 30, staring at me with her eyes all crazy and lots of mascara on... Freaked me out so bad bad I held it inside hahah. We ended up talking to her and she turned out to be super whack... and super Left Wing politically. She had recieved the missionaries before and she had some questions, we answered them. Sometimes she got mad though, she called our religion sexist and got mad that there aren't any girls who do the same thing as us. So I pulled out my camera and showed her a picture I had with a sister and she got proved wrong. We were polite but she kept saying stuff like that and we'd lightly have to nudge her in the right direction. My comp is super right wing so I knew he was getting annoyed so we just got outta there. It's funny cause we contacted her mom earlier that night and the mom came up the stairs so that was funny. Good times though.
19 de Dez, 1 Year!!! I left one year from this day, I still remember waving bye to my fam, and heading on my way to the airport in Utah getting picked up by my cousins, and heading off to the MTC to stay with the international kids for a night... waiting to start our missions! Anyways, we passed by some people in the morning and went to go eat some Francesinha for lunch! Killer times! Following that we went over to the other Elders' house so Elder Fillmore (He's been on the mission 6 more weeks than me) and I could burn our 1year shirts! We videoed it and it's hilarious cause Fillmore accidentally throws his sandal in the fire! He made a great scream. Then a member forgot about our compromisso and then we helped clean the church a bit. That ended the year day!
21 de Dez, We planned for the week in the morn, then we needed to go check if the Cyber Cafe place where basically 2 zones email would be open on Christmas Eve which yup! It will. Then us and the other Elders in our district, Fillmore e Leon, went to a dinner appointment at Irma Celeste's house! Super good pasta chicken meal. With unlimited icecream in the end!!
22 de Dez, Like I said above, so weird to think I'm 20, and also it was one of the strangest birthdays that I've ever had, but I'm happy to know it was spent in the service of the Lord. In the morning we had to grab 15 Hymn books from the church for an event in the night. The we ate some chicken at the house, followed by some nice "Steak n Shake" with Elders Lewis, and Leon. Beauties. Then we met up with a huge group of missionaries in the center of Porto and did a massive contacting event! There were missionaries singing Portuguese Christmas songs, and missionaries contacting. We also had free hot chocolate. It was a killer time, and events like that always make the day go great! So that's how I ended my birthday basically! It was great to see a bunch of my friends on my Bday! Solid day! Goodbye Teenager Elder Layton.
23 de Dez, Church and it was only one hour! Our choir group was there and already to sing... kind of. Man whatta choir,. That's all I'll say. One of the songs Elder Fillmore, (2 sisters from a neighbouring ward) Sister Brownell, Sister Holmes, and I sang a quartete (however that's spelt) and it was pretty killer. The Sisters killed it aha! Then we had lunch with Vinisios and Irma Josy, we gave them Christmas gifts. Signed ties for Vinisios and Signed oven mitts for Josy! So great, love that family so much and it's been a real pleasure to help them out durring my time here!! After that we went knocking some doors. The second door we knocked, a woman let us in and it turned out her son, who is a member from France, was there for the holidays!! We got in and had a great lesson with his mom! We'll be going back sometime next week!
Good week, so many things happened! We'll finish off today by going to a small get together with some members and non members ran by Irma Josy! It'll be a great Christmas Eve!!
Cool story, We gave a blessing of comfort with Vinisios! It's crazy, when we arrived, they were less active member and now Vinisios has a calling as secretary for the Bishopric as a 19 year old, received the Sacerdocio Melquisedeque, and now we are able to bless people together. Honestly been unreal to be a part of his growth, being used as a minister of the Lord, and see how much he can bless his family.
Scripture of the week:
In the Bible, Lucas Ch2 V11.
"For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord."
Jesus is the Salvador, feliz natal.
Merry Christmas to everyone, thank you for the Christmas emails along with the birthday emails! Pretty easy you get to kill the two birds with one stone there! Thanks no mesmo though!
Take it easy, Christmas with family is the best. But Christmas in the work of the Saviour is lucky. I getta call my fam tomorrow so I'm pumped!
